One of the more intense municipal election battlegrounds is being played out amidst a labour dispute.
Workers in Grand Falls-Windsor have been locked out since July in a bitter dispute which is only intensifying.
Mayor Barry Manuel, who’s one of three candidates for the town’s top job, accuses CUPE of an all-out assault on those who are running for re-election on Tuesday, through a series of radio attack ads.
National union rep Ed White says CUPE is a political organization and has a duty to nits members.
He accuses the town of not playing fair in the lockout, noting that, all-told, they have had about 13 days of actual bargaining.
